On November 4, 2022, the U.S. FDA has approved the marketing of mivituximab soratansine (Elahere), a cutting-edge antibody-coupled drug targeting folate receptor alpha (FRα), for the treatment of adult patients with epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube or primary peritoneal cancer who have received one to three systemic treatment regimens and are folate receptor alpha (FRα)-positive and platinum-resistant.

The FDA has recently granted orphan drug designation to Ezurpimtrostat, a PPT-1 inhibitor for the treatment of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Elahere, the first antibody-coupled drug (ADC) for refractory ovarian cancer, has received accelerated approval from the FDA, resulting in substantial tumour shrinkage in 31.7% of patients and complete tumour disappearance in 4.8%.

The FDA has granted accelerated approval to Adagrasib for the treatment of patients with KRAS G12C mutations in non-small cell lung cancer. In the trial, the drug resulted in disease control in 80% of patients, of which, 43% had substantial tumour shrinkage.

In recommendations released on 2 February 2023, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) recommends that doctors consider neratinib for patients with HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer, regardless of their estrogen receptor status.

Pancreatic cancer is a very complex and common tumour of the pancreas, and the malignancy of this disease is relatively high.

For patients undergoing surgery for ovarian and endometrial cancer, pain and anxiety are often experienced. Recently, a new study has shown that acupressure before surgery may help reduce anxiety and that acupuncture during surgery may reduce severe pain. The study was published online in Cancer, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society.

Recently, the European Commission has approved cemiplimab-rwlc (Libtayo), manufactured by US-based Regeneron, as a monotherapy for the treatment of adult patients with recurrent or metastatic cervical cancer whose disease has progressed during or after platinum-containing chemotherapy. The results of the trial showed that this therapy significantly improved patient survival and had a good safety profile.

The trial is testing the effectiveness of two chemotherapy drugs, oxaliplatin and gemcitabine, in combination with radiotherapy, an approach that has been used to treat other aggressive tumours

Many lung cancer patients will be detected by genetic testing to carry an EGFR mutation, and these patients can often control their tumours with EGFR-targeted drugs. Although targeted drugs are effective and have fewer side effects than chemotherapy, resistance to them inevitably occurs, after which they no longer work.
